Nervous About Your First Spa Pedicure? Simple Prep & What to Expect

We hear “I’m nervous” all the time, and honestly, it makes sense. Letting someone work on your feet feels personal. But the same hands that helped a client go from “thin, damaged and falling out” hair to “healthy after just three visits” are the hands that will take care of you in the chair, too. We don’t rush, and we talk you through what’s happening.
A spa pedicure is a multi-step foot treatment: soak, exfoliation, callus care, cuticle work, massage, and polish. Our Spa Pedicure is 45 minutes and $75. Below, we’ll cover exactly how to prep, what you’ll feel during each step (yes, including callus work), and how to keep your polish looking good in Twin Cities summer humidity.
A quick 10-minute prep that makes your spa pedicure feel easy
You don’t need a fancy routine before you come in. Simple is better. We generally recommend clean feet, no heavy scrubbing right before your appointment, and bringing sandals if you’re doing regular polish so you’re not squeezing toes into tight shoes after.
Before you arrive, tell us these 4 things
- If you have any sensitive spots or areas that are ticklish. We’ll adjust pressure right away.
- If you’ve had a recent foot injury, surgery, or a sore spot that’s still healing.
- If you’re pregnant, have diabetes, or have circulation or neuropathy concerns, let us know when you book so we can talk through what feels best for you.
- If you prefer gel or regular polish. If you’re not sure, we’ll help you decide based on your plans and timeline.
A lot of our regulars keep nails and feet on a steady schedule, even with “somewhat difficult nails and feet.” That’s a good sign that small, consistent care beats trying to fix everything in one visit.
Your 45-minute spa pedicure, step by step (so nothing surprises you)
When you arrive in our South St. Louis Park space near the Excelsior Boulevard and Yosemite Avenue corridor, we’ll get you settled and confirm your polish choice. If you’re a first-timer, we’ll also ask what you want most: smoother heels, cleaner cuticles, a specific shape, or just a relaxing reset.
Heads-up on sensations: The soak and scrub feel relaxing. Callus work can feel like light scraping or firm pressure, not sharp pain. If anything feels too intense, say so in the moment and we’ll back off.
1) Soak
We start with a warm soak to soften skin and prep your feet. This is also when you can relax into the chair and let your shoulders drop.
2) Exfoliation
Next is exfoliation to lift dry skin. This is the “ahhh” part for most people, especially during Twin Cities summer when sandals and lake days can rough up feet fast.
3) Callus care
We focus on thicker areas, usually heels and the ball of the foot. We’ll check in as we go. That “asking me at each faze what I was feeling... and what too expect” kind of communication matters here, especially if you’re nervous.
4) Nail and cuticle work
We trim and shape nails, then tidy cuticles. If you’ve had rough experiences elsewhere, tell us. We’ll keep it gentle and neat.
5) Massage
Then we massage feet and lower legs. It’s the part that tends to make people go quiet because they finally feel safe to relax.
6) Polish (gel or regular)
We finish with polish application so you leave smooth and sandal-ready. If you’re running errands after, regular polish needs a little extra breathing room. Sandals help a lot.
"Omgoodness I really felt pampered the time she took too help me be convertible was amazing...asking me at each faze what I was feeling how I was feeling and what too expect."

After your pedicure: drying time, humidity tips, and how to make it last
Right after your spa pedicure, your feet usually feel lighter, smoother, and a little “new.” That’s normal. What you do in the next couple hours matters most for polish, especially if you chose regular polish.
Skip tight shoes for a few hours. Pressure and heat can dent fresh polish. Sandals or roomy slides are your best friend.
Moisturize, but not right before polish. We love lotion after, especially on heels. If you’re doing your own touch-ups at home, keep nail surfaces clean and dry first.
Twin Cities humidity note: If you’re in and out of pools, lakes, and showers, polish tends to wear faster. Dry feet well and reapply a top coat at home if you want extra mileage.
Most people rebook based on their schedule and how quickly their skin builds up. Summer evenings and weekends fill faster in St. Louis Park, especially once sandal season hits. If you’re trying to fit a pedicure around Ridgedale or Southdale errands, picking your spot in the calendar early keeps it simple.
3 confidence tips we tell first-timers in St. Louis Park
1) Say “pause” any time
If you need a break, you can ask for one. Callus care shouldn’t feel scary. We’d rather take a little longer with lighter pressure than have you tense the whole appointment.
2) Don’t over-prep at home
People sometimes try to “help” by shaving calluses down the day of. Please don’t. It can leave skin extra sensitive. Let us do the smoothing safely and evenly in one place.
3) If your feet feel complicated, you’re not alone
We work with all kinds of nail shapes, dryness levels, and “I’ve been putting this off” feet. We also see a lot of long-time loyalty here. People stick with us for years and even follow us when we move locations, because they feel cared for and understood, not judged.
